Call for Artist Mural Project
​
Overview
Visit The Northshore, in collaboration with local property owners, is sponsoring the creation of five murals across St. Tammany Parish to promote the region, enhance the visitor experience, and celebrate local artisanship. Murals will be installed in Abita Springs, Covington, Madisonville, Mandeville, and Slidell, with the site in Mandeville currently seeking artists.

This project aims to install permanent public art of lasting value to the community, encouraging visitors and locals alike to engage with the murals and share their experiences.
Locations Seeking Artists:

Mandeville Trailhead – 675 Lafitte St., Mandeville, LA 70448 (southwest corner, facing Tammany Trace).

Artist Responsibilities:
-
Design and produce a site-specific mural incorporating the Visit The Northshore logo and branding elements.

Work with the property owner to portray the town’s culture and ensure access for mural production.

Maintain the mural with annual upkeep.
-
Provide periodic progress updates, including photos, and adhere to the agreed schedule.
Budget & Compensation:
-
$7,500, covering all costs associated with the project, including research, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, and documentation. This amount will be paid directly to the artist.

$3,750 will be paid at the start of the project, and the remaining $3,750 upon completion. If more is needed to cover the cost of materials, the initial amount may be adjusted.

Initial materials invoice must be received by December 26, 2024 from the selected artist.
Eligibility:
-
Open to artists residing in St. Tammany Parish, 18 years and older, regardless of racial/ethnic background, ability, neurotype, body size, language, socioeconomic status, citizenship, land of origin, faith, religious, and/or spiritual affiliation, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, age or marital status.

Artist teams may apply but must designate a lead contact. Examples of work submitted must be original and completed within the last ten years.
Submission Requirements:

Artist Résumé: Demonstrating at least five years of visual art experience creating outdoor murals. If applying as a team, each team member must submit a résumé (compiled into one document).

Statement of Interest: Address the following:
-
Why you are interested in this project.
-
Your previous experience with public art.
-
Your methods of working.
-
Your connection to or interest in the town.
-
How you believe the mural will enhance the selected location.

References: Provide the names and current contact information for three individuals with whom you’ve partnered, worked, or been commissioned by.

Images: Submit up to 10 images of original, completed commissions or artworks that demonstrate your qualifications for this project. Include the title, medium, dimensions, project budget, year completed, location, and a brief description. Optional: Up to 3 videos of work examples.
Image specs: JPG or PNG, max size 5MB per image, total size 30MB. Each image must feature only one view of the work.
Design Guidelines:

The design should incorporate Visit The Northshore’s logo and branded colors in a subtle, non-commercial way. Visit The Northshore will provide brand guidelines.

The mural should be vibrant, playful, and reflective of the town’s unique vibe, encouraging engagement and social sharing.

A QR code linking to Visit The Northshore’s website will be included (adhesive vinyl, not painted).

The finished mural should have a clear protective coating to extend its life.

The design and materials should prioritize environmental sustainability. Consider using recycled or repurposed materials, eco-friendly paints, or other sustainable practices to minimize the project’s environmental impact.
Accessibility and Inclusivity:
-
The mural must be designed to be accessible to all members of the community, including individuals with disabilities. Consider the physical and sensory accessibility of the artwork, ensuring wheelchair access. Optional: consider including tactile elements or multilingual materials where possible.

If incorporating text, avoid the use of color combinations that cannot be distinguished by those with color vision deficiency (color blindness), such as red/green and yellow/blue. This is not a requirement if no text elements are used.
Marketing & Promotion:
Visit The Northshore, the property owner and representatives of the town will promote the mural through various platforms, highlighting its collaborative and cultural significance. The artist will be featured in promotional materials related to the project.
Terms & Conditions:

Intellectual property rights remain with the respective parties. Visit The Northshore will inform the artist of any required brand revisions.

The mural is to remain visible indefinitely or until deemed necessary for updates.

Visit The Northshore is responsible for expenses that arise in the maintenance or repair of the artwork, only. This does not include repairs to the building, in the event of damage by natural elements or vandalism.

Any disputes arising from the project will be resolved through mediation or arbitration.
